When Enough is Enough

Sometimes, getting up and saying good morning to God is enough. Sometimes, telling him you aren’t sure what to do next is enough. Sometimes, sitting in silence with God is enough. He does not need us to speak all of the time to know what we need at the moment. Although, at times, his silence feels like he does not care, it can often be a sign that he is closer than ever. It can often be a sign that he trusts you to know that he is near without proof. It is so easy to fall into the snare of being a doubting Thomas. We always want proof that it is him or that we are headed in the right direction. Yet, as one matures in their walk with God, the mature believer knows that God making himself known all of the time is not a part of our walk because it would omit the need to activate our faith.

This month’s message is quite simply to be okay with being silent and still with God. We do not always need to be in motion or doing things to prove that we have a relationship with God or that we are making productive decisions. Sometimes, it feels like we have to ask for permission or earn the right to do nothing and think nothing. Sometimes, as uncomfortable or terrifying as it might be, we have to feel our emotions without receiving answers. Some of the greatest moments of growth in life come without a definitive answer. Sometimes, there is no period, exclamation point, or question mark. It is simply an ellipse, a place to rest our weary bodies from the centripetal force of a world that never stops spinning. So today, if you are unsure of what to say, what to do, or what to think, consider this your sign. It is okay to be still. Your rest is productive. Your ability to yield and not say or do anything is productive. Your ability to not need answers is God fortifying you with His wisdom. Enough is enough, just as you are.

My prayer today, for all of us, is that we allow our minds to feel where in our bodies we feel the most discomfort. Once you find the places, focus for a moment on these places of discomfort. Allow these anxieties, worries, and fears to begin to leave your body and float in the sky. Imagine them floating so high that they disappear. Let yourself rest as much as you need as each floats away. Be still, and now that he is God, whether he is near or far, he is so we are. I pray we can find comfort in knowing everything does not need an answer, but every day is an opportunity to invite our being to find contentment regardless of the outcome. May you be well, may you be filled with His peace, and most of all, may you be. Amen.
